Does your workplace use the handi-wipes for cleaning respirators? Do you feel this is compliant? After all it is a very common practice and how could it be so widely used if it is not compliant?????
1910.134(h)(1) Cleaning and disinfecting.
The employer shall provide each respirator user with a respirator that is clean, sanitary, and in good working order. The employer shall ensure that respirators are cleaned and disinfected using the procedures in Appendix B-2 of this section, or procedures recommended by the respirator manufacturer, provided that such procedures are of equivalent effectiveness.
So OSHA requires warm, soapy water with a disinfectant to clean face pieces, as described in the MANDATORY Appendix B-2.
OSHA DOES ALLOW the use of handi-wipes for cleaning face pieces in between fit tests (makes no sense to me) because they thought it would be too burdensome to follow Appendix B-2 while fit testing. See the following LOI for their rationale for cleaning during fit testing.
