Flammable Liquids Videos

A collection of flammable liquid safety videos.   If you have ANY amount of flammable liquids, these are a MUST SEE for the workers who work with and around flammable liquids.  Most of the segments are VERY SHORT (<1 minute) and are designed to be used as safety talks.  Some are from the Chemical Safety Board and are more detailed training for those facilities who store and handle flammables in a flammable liquids process. I use them in my 3 & 5 days flammable liquid training courses.  SOME THINGS DO NOT CHANGE – some of these videos are from the 1940’s and 60’s and STILL TODAY depict the hazards of flammable liquids!

Static Electricty the cause of a Flash Fire destroying gasoline storage tank (Video)

An explosion at a large outdoor oil storage tank at Korea National Oil Corporation Pipeline’s Yeongnam branch is preliminarily attributed to static electricity generated during a petroleum component verification process. The incident occurred at a large-scale oil storage facility housing 12 to 14 tanks, raising concerns that it could have escalated into a major disaster…....

Seeing Static in action igniting flammable vapors (Graphic Video)

Another video has surfaced, showing what static electricity can do in the presence of flammable vapor. The video below actually catches the static discharging as the vessel does not appear to be grounded. This is another transfer gone bad. Open top container. It does appear the operator has the hose down inside the tank, but…...

Transferring Non-Conductive Flammable Liquids (GRAPHIC video)

So what are we seeing in this video, other than the tragic loss of life? I can say without knowing the specifics that he was transferring a FLAMMABLE liquid. That flammable liquid was most likely a NON-CONDUCTIVE flammable liquid. Several serious failures in what we are seeing:1) SPLASH FILLING is a NO-NO in any flammable…...

CNG Bus falls from lift leading to catastrophic explosion (Video + SFM Report)

The examination of the scene was conducted using a systematic approach using a basic method of fire investigation and scientific methodology outlined by the consensus committee of the 2024 edition of NFPA 921, “A Guide for Fire Explosion Investigation,” and the 2022 edition of NFPA 1033, “Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigators,” and other treatises as…...

Facility Siting 101 – 25′ safe distance – vapors travel along ground (Video)

Take notice… single hose. Means liquid gasoline is going in the tank, but where are the vapors going if there is not a vapor return hose back to the truck? ALSO, the tank has an atmospheric vent pipe somewhere so as to vent vapor pressure should the tank get warmer and the gasoline Vp increases…....

Someone needs some HAZCOM and ER training

This video is a great example of two failures: 1) Hazardous Communications and 2) Emergency Response recognition. There is no way he should have walked into the spill, much less into the spray to stop the leak. That was gasoline—NOT diesel; even if it had been diesel, his actions were still out of line. We…...

Failing to control flammable vapor results in severe injuries for by-stander (video)

A video I posted over two years ago has come full circle. A citizen (some may call him homeless) was allowed to sit (and smoke) within 20′ of a gasoline tanker unloading operation at a gas station. His actions may not have been his sole demise, as we can see in the video evidence that…...

Flammable Liquids, Surface Area, and Oxidizers (Video)

This is an excellent video that shows us that SURFACE AREA of the flammable liquid MATTERS, thus the importance of SECONDARY CONTAINMENT or better, the use of an impounding basin AWAY from the container(s).  Later in the video, we can see why Flammable Liquids and Oxidizers should be SEGREGATED….
