2012 Video of the Week #43 (Power of condensing gas & the atm)

This week’s video is one for the process safety crowd.  We often hear of, and I am quick to mention, over pressure events in my process safety writings; but we can NOT loose sight of the power of a vacuum and the damage it can do!  In my relatively short 20+ years in process safety I have seen and experienced first hand at least a half dozen atmospheric tanks be destroyed from a vacuum and most of these were caused from a gas condensing at a rate the vent could not handle.  This video will provide some level of just how quick and powerful a vacuum can be created in a container NOT designed to see a vacuum.
