Every time I watch this video I think back to my days as a lifeguard and realizing that was my very first form of TRAINING. I was a Boy Scout and was about 14-15 years old and already knew I wanted to be a rescuer and just fell in love with the intensity of my training. It was then that I learned what “TRAINING” was all about. For a week, 6 hours each day I had to practice the skills until as well as a teenager could master anything and each night I was required to read chapter after chapter by flashlight of my rescue manual. I am now going on 52 and I can remember that week, each day, each class, like it was yesterday. No as I watch these young men and women spring into action it is OBVIOUS they did more than read a procedure… they too were trained on how to rescue, stabilize, package, and care for that young lady. So the next time someone tries to convince us that reading a procedure is “training”, think to how these young men and women responded!
