Flammable Liquids Videos

A collection of flammable liquid safety videos.   If you have ANY amount of flammable liquids, these are a MUST SEE for the workers who work with and around flammable liquids.  Most of the segments are VERY SHORT (<1 minute) and are designed to be used as safety talks.  Some are from the Chemical Safety Board and are more detailed training for those facilities who store and handle flammables in a flammable liquids process. I use them in my 3 & 5 days flammable liquid training courses.  SOME THINGS DO NOT CHANGE – some of these videos are from the 1940’s and 60’s and STILL TODAY depict the hazards of flammable liquids!

Someone needs some HAZCOM and ER training

This video is a great example of two failures: 1) Hazardous Communications and 2) Emergency Response recognition. There is no way he should have walked into the spill, much less into the spray to stop the leak. That was gasoline—NOT diesel; even if it had been diesel, his actions were still out of line. We…...

Failing to control flammable vapor results in severe injuries for by-stander (video)

A video I posted over two years ago has come full circle. A citizen (some may call him homeless) was allowed to sit (and smoke) within 20′ of a gasoline tanker unloading operation at a gas station. His actions may not have been his sole demise, as we can see in the video evidence that…...

Heavier than Air Flammable Vapors (Video)

An excellent video demonstrating how flammable vapors that are heavier than air (e.g. Vapor Density > 1) move and ignite from an ignition source a distance away from the liquid…. Membership Required You must be a member to access this content.View Membership LevelsAlready a member? Log in here...

Flammable Liquids, Surface Area, and Oxidizers (Video)

This is an excellent video that shows us that SURFACE AREA of the flammable liquid MATTERS, thus the importance of SECONDARY CONTAINMENT or better, the use of an impounding basin AWAY from the container(s).  Later in the video, we can see why Flammable Liquids and Oxidizers should be SEGREGATED…. Static electricity fire at Israeli gas station

Another incident at a fuel pump where the customer exited their vehicle while the gasoline was flowing and reached for the nozzle, only to ignite the vapors exiting the tank via their static electricity.  The customer then made another critical error by removing the nozzle and spreading the fire.  It certainly looks as if the…...

Gasoline, Static, and the lack of Bonding & Grounding

This is an excellent demonstration showing the ignition of gasoline vapors with static electricity.  A few important points to call out before you watch the video: Gasoline vapors have an MIE less than 1.0 mJ “Splashing filling” is a HUGE generator of static Watch how they make a point to be sure the nozzle is…...
