With the changing political winds in D.C. comes changes to OSHA and our safety programs

This week we will see a new administration take over the reins in D.C., and after four tumultuous years under President Trump for OSHA and the CSB, we stand to see some serious shifting in both agencies.  OSHA has had a “wish list” ever since the last year of the Obama Administration, which some got implemented, and some of that got overturned in courts.  With the Trump Administration’s efforts to “deregulate,” we saw no movement on some hot topics, such as:

  1. HAZCOM being revised to meet the UN’s GHS Rev.7
  2. HAZWOPER and Fire Brigades
  3. LOTO standard to allow for more use of safety instrumented systems

PSM to remove the Atmospheric Storage Tank exemption and re-define the “retail exemption.”  The PSM standard could also see a significant change in what constitutes an HHC in terms of flammable gases with the effort to make the flammable refrigerants a Class 1B Flammable Gas and thus not an HHC (my personal opinion)

SAFTENG members can read all my analysis on these topics and others that may come about in 2021 and most certainly 2022 and beyond.  BUCKLE UP, as I feel things are about to get crazy in the EHS compliance world.  Here is a list of the standards and the stage of revision/issue they are in:
