The title may sound bad, but in reality, when safety becomes a selfish act we have actually established the culture that we have all dreamed of. Safety is not something we do for a government agency, heck it is not even something we should be doing for the company. Safety is something we do FIRST for OURSELVES and SECOND for our FAMILY (for those too stubborn to do it for themselves). The company just reaps the reward of our selfish safety acts.
This funny video is a perfect example of Mr. Macho (I’ll call him) and his PPE.
In comes his son with the helmet, which he kicks away and again scoffs at the notion of the “leader wearing his helmet”. He has several excuses as to why he does not want to wear his helmet.
Notice his response when his colleagues question his decision not to wear his helmet into combat.
The final straw is when his wife appears with his newborn child and orders him to wear his helmet, only to be laughed at.
