The investigation is NOT complete, but we can clearly see Hot Work was taking place within 10′ of the origin of this fire. In the video below, we can see the welders were actually using wooden pallets as work platforms, and the large pile of mattress foam was a mere ~10′ away. We can not see a “fire watch” or even a fire extinguisher in the video, which would have made a huge difference in the outcome of this event. LEARN from the mistakes of others! BTW, this fire burned an entire city block, and we can see it start from a flicker of a flame! And it did not take but a few seconds to grow out of control.
