The development of the 2027 edition is currently underway, with several proposals aimed at industrial operations and complex facilities:
Hazardous Exhaust Ducts:
Section 903.2.11.4 is being revised to clarify the requirements for automatic sprinklers inside ducts conveying hazardous exhaust. The update specifically addresses how dimensions and cross-sectional areas are calculated for non-circular ducts.
High-Piled Combustible Storage: Updates clarify that high-piled combustible storage may include high-hazard commodities stacked above 6 feet. Additionally, standpipe requirements for evacuation routes in these warehouses are being formally added to Section 905 to ensure alignment with Chapter 32 provisions.
Standpipe Pressure Restricting Devices: Revisions will allow conventional hose valves to replace pressure regulating devices on Class I or III standpipes with static pressures up to 175 psi, aligning the IFC with the 2024 edition of NFPA 14.
