On my soapbox again, regarding the catastrophic hazards associated with load/unloading/transferring large volumes of hazardous materials. via temporary hose hook-ups. Three weeks ago, I posted about the fatality event when a driver pulled their truck forward for unknown reasons, severing the LNG hose, and was killed as he entered the LNG cloud when it was ignited.
Drive-offs are MORE COMMON than most people realize, as many can not get their head around how someone could make this “mistake”. We have all seen the internet photos of cars driving down the road with the gas nozzle still inside the connection and the hose dragging along. This event was common enough and carries consequences severe enough (R=F X S) that those hoses are now equipped with breakaway devices and excess-flow valves. The same causes that happen at gas stations happen in industrial settings; yet the consequences can be far worse.
