AMPUTATION Flintshire factory worker has lower arm amputated after industrial accident (worker, in his 30s, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following an incident – he got his hand trapped in one of the machines at the site – surgeons at the hospital have had to amputate his arm from just below the elbow)

EXCAVATOR FATALITY Police: Construction worker dies at Gap site in Fishkill (an operator of an excavator at a distribution center died after a piece of steel beam and tin pierced the cab – he was pronounced dead at the scene around 2:38 p.m. in the area of where demolition work was being performed following an Aug. 29 fire that destroyed the 1.3 million-square-foot facility)
UPDATE on CRANE FATALITY Fatal New York City crane collapse that killed Wall Street worker is blamed on operator error (the 565-foot red crane collapsed more than 200 feet in high winds on February 5 – crane fell on David Wichs, who was on his way to work at a Wall Street trading firm – operator is being blamed by the Department of Buildings for the collapse – Department of Buildings said the crane operator, 56, failed to secure the 565-foot crane the night before it collapsed – department says the operator also lowered the crane’s main boom at an improper angle, causing the crane to become unstable and topple over)
