As I prepare for Ohio’s adoption of the 2015 International Fire Code, I am reminded of the codes Performance Code™ for buildings and facilities. It is my opinion, completely unsubstantiated that this part of the code is for facilities which already have PSM/RMP covered processes and already have their PSM/RMP management systems in place for these hazardous materials. This part of the code permits those facilities to use their existing PSM/RMP management systems for ALL of their “hazardous materials.” Or if the facility does not want to follow the code’s prescriptive requirements and wishes to use a “performance-oriented” approach, they can choose to implement a PSM/RMP safety management system for their hazardous materials as described in this post. Most of you will be shocked at how strictly this mirror’s our PSM and RMP regulatory requirements.
