There is so much to learn from this video!
- Transferring a flammable liquid using gravity without a dead-man valve is NOT allowed and for the reason shown below (they lost contents from BOTH totes!). (See 1910.106(e)(2)(iv)(d)
- PROPER GROUNDING AND BONDING is an absolute MUST when transferring flammable liquids. (See 1910.106(e)(6)(ii)
- SPLASH FILLING should NEVER be permitted when transferring flammable liquids unless it is done in an inert atmosphere.
- Flame-Retardant Clothing is a MUST when transferring flammable liquids – even when all the above are in place! g
- If you’re going to grab a fire extinguisher – KNOW HOW TO USE IT!
- PLASTIC totes in racks do not hold up well in a pool fire!
Plastic totes may be acceptable for those flammable liquids that are “conductive liquids”, but for the record, I hate them as they always seem to find their way into the service of non-conductive flammable liquids and even with grounding and bonding, plastic just is NOT recommended. And don’t be fooled by the wire mesh support, the liquids are going into a PLASTIC CONTAINER (ungrounded and unbonded to the delivery container!).
