DOT 2.1 Flammable Gas and NFPA 704 Diamond

And you have three (3) storage tanks that are labeled with NFPA 704 Diamonds, which tank do you think is the best fit for this material if you had to make the decision:

In order to decide, you look up what a “Class 2” Flammable Gas assigned the UN # of 3161 is and you see the following:

UN number: 3161

Transport hazard class: 2.1 (Flammable Gas)

UN proper shipping name: Liquefied gas, flammable, n.o.s. (2,3,3, 3-Tetrafluoropropene)

 

Division 2.1 (Flammable gas) – a flammable gas means any material which is a gas at 68°F or less and 14.7 psia of pressure (a material which has a boiling point of 68°F or less at 14.7 psia) which –

(1) Is ignitable at 14.7 psia when in a mixture of 13 percent or less by volume with air; OR

(2) Has a flammable range at 14.7 psia with the air of at least 12 percent regardless of the lower limit
