A vaneometer is a MUST have for storage, use, dispensing, mixing and handling of flammable liquids

This is a very high-tech and expensive Vaneometer^TM.  I am kidding, it is only around $40 and it may be one of the simplest safety devices we will ever use.  But don’t let the price or simplicity fool you – it is an ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL device for those of you that have ventilation systems, especially ventilation intended for flammable vapors/gases.  Both the IFC and NFPA require our ventilation systems to be FUNCTIONALLY TESTED on an ANNUAL basis and we will can this using a vaneometer^TM

The device was designed for measuring/testing air flows on lab hoods but can be used to measure airflow at ventilation pick-up points.

These simple devices can be used to measure air flows from 25 to 400 feet per minute. Just hold the meter parallel to airflow – the pendulum vane/pointer indicates air velocity in feet per minute on a large, easy-to-read scale.

It can be handheld- or permanently mounted if continuous monitoring of face velocity is desired. It’s sensitive and accurate to ± 10% of full scale. The Vaneometer has a bubble level and scales visible on both sides. For accurate readings be sure to keep meter level at all times.

The Vaneometer is accurate to ± 5% of full scale from the bottom of the scale to 100 FPM and ± 10% from 100 FPM to top of the scale.

To determine face velocity, take the average of six readings.  Readings should be taken at the center of six equal sections, three across top and three across the bottom.
