Catastrophic Failure of Pressure Vessel (Again?)

This week, we saw a fatal explosion in Louisville, KY. This same facility, albeit under a previous ownership, had a catastrophic failure of a PV in 2003. The photos coming out of the post-analysis of this week’s event look to be a similar type of explosion. CLICK HERE to see the pics. Here is my analysis, using the pics to piece the event. I am NOT involved in this investigation, but I have participated in and led over 100 catastrophic event investigations and analyses. Pictures can tell us a lot!

The oval in the image above is where I suspect the vessel was originally. This is based on the drone footage showing most of the roof structure still in place, except this spot. The square shows the skid marks of where the vessel skidded into the house (Shown Below).

The pic below, leads me to believe this vessel was steam heated (note the dimples in the steel).
