On the evening of Christmas Eve, the Jackson Fire Department was alerted to a worker trapped inside a hopper at a local factory. Jackson Police Department, Jackson County EMS, Jackson Sheriff’s Office, Liberty Fire, and Jackson Fire units, including Jackson’s Rescue, Tower, and two engines, responded to the scene.
The worker was attempting to retrieve a dropped cell phone when he fell approximately 10–12 feet into the hopper, landing on powdery material. While trapped, he recovered his phone and called 911.
The responding Jackson Police officer quickly notified plant personnel that a worker had fallen into a hopper somewhere within the facility. During a rapid search, the employee was located inside a bin on an upper floor with an auger operating beneath him.
The worker was safely rescued from the hopper and was unharmed. Jackson Fire Department would like to thank all responding agencies and plant employees for their assistance during the rescue, especially Jackson Police Department and Jackson Sheriff’s Office for their quick and decisive actions.
