A few months back I posted an article regarding OR-OSHA’s revisions to their “STATIONARY COMPACTORS, SELF-CONTAINED COMPACTORS AND BALERS” standard and offered up the idea that we could/should be using this state plan standard as our own guidance in how we manage safety around our equipment, even though we are not in the state of Oregon. They just completed the revisions of this standard and issued them for employers in Oregon. You can see the standard Here and begin to implement these requirements at your work place. For those of you who are regular readers of the incident alerts know that this type of equipment causes serious injuries or death ALL TOO OFTEN; just this week a worker in CA died in a shredder/baler!! What are we waiting for?!?!?
