EEBAs and their limitations

What is the number 1 battle we deal with in our respirator programs?  Facial hair!  But luckily an Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus (EEBA) is not hindered by facial hair; however, an EEBA could be hampered by…

Long hair or long beard that could interfere with the hood and neck seal.

3M Scott’s “grab and go” ELSA respirator is designed to be put on and activated quickly. The clear polyurethane hood fits securely over the head and provides 360-degree visibility. Since it fits over the entire head, the fit is not affected by safety glasses or facial hair, provided the hair does not interfere with the neck seal.

The elastomeric neck seal and positive pressure inside the hood help ensure that the wearer will be protected from airborne contaminants. Fit testing is not required.
