Most of the facilities we work at have a mechanical integrity program for the process equipment. Most have a Work Order system for their preventative maintenance program. This system kicks out a work order for the PM(s) due. Most facilities track the closure rates of the PM W.O.’s.
My tip… Add ALL of your emergency response equipment to this system. Items such as:
- sprinkler annual flow test
- sprinkler heads 20, 50, and 75 year sample testing and replacement
- SCBA cylinder Hydros and annual flow test
- Grade D 5,000 psi cylinders (cascade system cylinders)
- SAR auxiliary bottles hydro
- emergency lighting checks ( I do monthly, but there is no OSHA frequency)
- EXIT sign checks
- emergency generator weekly runs
- annual LEVEL A pressure tests
- underground sprinkler/hydrant lines NDT and inspection
- fire water quarterly inspection and 3-year inspection
- Direct Read meter for Oxygen, LEL, Toxics
- Colormetric Tube Pump annual calibration
- relief valve testing on breathing air compressor
- a check on the colormetric tubes to ensure they have not expired
- Monthly inspection of HAZMAT equipment
Just a few of the items we could enter into the MI program system to ensure we do not forget them.
