This is a GREAT video that shows the vast difference in how plastic sheeting with a Flame Resistance rating performs when introduced to a flame compared to non-rated plastic sheeting.
Often, we find plastic sheeting used on welding/hot work jobs to act as either a “fire blanket” or as a windbreak.
1910.252(a)(1)(ii) states
“If the object to be welded or cut cannot be moved and if all the fire hazards cannot be removed, then guards shall be used to confine the heat, sparks, and slag, and to protect the immovable fire hazards.”
This is where workers use sheeting to either contain the sparks or ly over the combustibles to prevent sparks from reaching the combustibles.
