Subject: Machine Stability

Issue:
Genie has determined that the control system utilized on the above referenced machines can malfunction. This malfunction allows the operator to lift and drive the machine with the platform raised above the maximum allowable travel height of 22 ft / 6.7 m. A machine that is driven with the platform raised above 22 ft / 6.7 m can cause the machine to lose stability resulting in a tip over.
Action Required:
This safety notice requires updating the control system software installed on your machine. You will need the following to perform the software update:
- A laptop computer or desktop with an ethernet port and internet browser
- An Ethernet (CAT 5) network cable of suitable length
1. Locate all machines within the model and serial range referenced above.
2. Access http://firmware.genielift.com.
Note: If you cannot access the website, you may order thumb drive kit P/N 218136. One kit can be used on multiple machines.
3. Select, as shown below, the model and controller type. Click on the search button
4. Under the “Application Firmware” column, download and save the firmware file by clicking on the 137641.gff link.
Important: Note the location on the computer where you downloaded the file. You will need it when performing the software update.
5. By following the instructions (218116 Rev B) included in this safety notice, update the software installed on your machine.
Installation of the software must take place as soon as possible but no later than 15 days from receipt of the kit.
Continued Use:
Machines may remain in service while waiting for this software update provided the operator follows the instructions on the machine. The machine will sound an audible error/fault alarm when it reaches approximately 22 feet of elevation.
Limit the maximum travel height to 22 ft / 6.7 m.
Do not attempt to activate the lift function, or lift any further when this alarm is triggered at 22 ft / 6.7 m.
The machine must be leveled on the outriggers to elevate above 22 feet.
All machine operators must be notified of these continued use requirements.

Warranty:
The labor and travel miles required to perform this inspection and installation are covered under the provisions of our warranty agreement. Labor for each affected machine will be paid at a rate of $60.00 U.S. per hour and travel at a rate of $.50 U.S. per mile, converted into the currency of the appropriate country at the time of payment. Genie and ANSI requires that the seller of a Genie machine report to Genie the model and serial number of each machine sold, as well as the name, address, and telephone number of the new owner, within 60 days of the sale. OSHA and ANSI also require that the manufacturer’s safety notices be completed. It is your responsibility to communicate this important information to all machine owners and applicable branches. Genie and ANSI requires that the seller of a Genie machine report to Genie the model and serial number of each machine sold, as well as the name, address, and telephone number of the new owner, within 60 days of the sale.
• If you have sold a machine, list the complete model and serial number (examples: GS3211A-110005 or GS3212A-110431) and the name, address and phone number of the new owner.
