2012 Video of the Week #49 – Is “self reflection” a legitimate approach to unsafe acts? (Video)

A retired safety professional I am a friend with on Facebook shared this video with me and it made me think (as most safety pro’s will)… would this approach work in stopping unsafe acts?  I think it will, but what do you think?  How can we go about utilizing this approach, I call “self reflection”.  Those that oppose it claim the approach is nothing short of embarrassing to the worker and will not have a lasting impact.

I disagree, as I have seen kids have a dramatic impact on their parent’s behavior.  Look at seatbelt usage… going into the schools and educating the kids on BUCKLING UP has changed the behavior of many adults – when your kids get in and buckle up, they will kindly and relentlessly remind the adults to BUCKLE UP.  Watch the video below and ask yourself, would this approach work in industrial safety?
