Line Breaking (e.g. Process opening) is like handling a gun

For the gun owners, you already know what the title means.  But for those not quite sure, this is what I mean.  When we handle a firearm, loaded or unloaded, we ALWAYS treat it as if it is loaded.  This means we NEVER put ourselves in the line of fire, REGARDLESS of the status of the weapon.  And the “safety” on the weapon is our LAST LINE of defense.    We MUST take this same philosophy during our line breaking/process opening task!

1. NEVER ASSUME the line/process is empty
2. ALWAYS treat the first break/opening as if the pipe/process is loaded
3. NEVER put yourself in the “line of fire” of the first break; this means you loosen the bolts FARTHEST AWAY from you FIRST  
4. Our PPE is our last line of defense
