Back in the days of my firefighting/HAZMAT we used to drill like this on a regular basis. We would even do it in a dark room if we could not smoke the room. Rescue, and proper application of a B Kit on a One-Ton Cylinder is just over 1:30 is a sign these guys have done this a few times! I will add (for my own pride) they did it with only SCBA, nothing to obsecure their vision, and no water hooked up to the training cylinder. With that said, I am not sure that I could have done this in 1:30 even with my die-hard side kick “Slepp” Carden!
I strongly suggest that response teams should livin’ up their quarterly training sessions with drills like this… adds fun to training and there is nothing wrong with some good ole fashion competition within the team. I even used to give out gift certificates/card for the winners; $ well spent in my opinion.
