OSHA’s VPP efforts in process safety has offered the following questions regarding the PSM activities in the process. Here are seven questions that will help you gauge your level of PSM expectations related to ammonia refrigeration:
- Do your employees perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of your ammonia refrigeration system? (Y/N)
- Do you have a resident contractor perform routine testing and maintenance of your ammonia refrigeration system? (Y/N)
- Do you track the percentage of critical equipment tested vs. the percentage of critical equipment scheduled for testing? (Y/N)
- How many thickness measurements were collected for the ammonia system pressure vessels and piping equipment in 2022? (#)
- Percentage of the measurements (from Question 4) resulting in a need for corrective action? (%)
- Do you have a method for tracking action items from PHAs, Compliance Audits, and deficiencies resulting from Inspections Testing? (Yes/No)
- If the answer to Question 6 is yes, what is the average time it takes to complete action items? (Days)
