OSHA PSM Contractors Citations in 2022

In OSHA’s fiscal year 2022, Contractors was the #5 most cited element of the PSM standard. Here is a breakdown of those citations…

The #1 and 2 Contractor citations cited in 2022, with 5 or 15% of the Contractor citations, were

1910.119(h)(2)(i), obtain and evaluate information regarding the contractor’s safety performance and programs

1910.119(h)(3)(ii), contract employer shall assure that each contract employee is instructed in the known potential fire, explosion, or toxic release hazards related to his/her job and the process, and the applicable provisions of the emergency action plan

 

The #3, 4, and 5 Contractor citations cited in 2022, with 4 or 12% of the Contractor citations, were

1910.119(h)(2)(ii), inform contract employers of the known potential fire, explosion, or toxic release hazards related to the contractor’s work and the process

1910.119(h)(3)(i), contract employer shall assure that each contract employee is trained in the work practices

1910.119(h)(3)(iv), contract employer shall assure that each contract employee follows the safety rules of the facility

 

The #6 and 7 Contractor citations cited in 2022, with 3 or 9% of the Contractor citations, were

1910.119(h)(2)(iii), employer shall explain to contract employers the applicable provisions of the EAP

1910.119(h)(2)(v), employer shall periodically evaluate the performance of contract employers

 

The #8 and 9 Contractor citations cited in 2022, with 2 or 6% of the Contractor citations, were

1910.119(h)(2)(iv), employer shall develop and implement safe work practices to control the entrance, presence and exit of contract employers and contract employees

1910.119(h)(3)(iii), contract employer shall document that each contract employee has received and understood the training, and prepare a record that contains the identity of the contract employee, the date of training, and the means used to verify that the employee understood the training
