The Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of State Fire Marshal (SFM) is in the process of updating all chapters of Ohio Administrative Code sections 1301:7-7-01 – 1301:7-7-80, collectively known as the Ohio Fire Code (OFC). When the update process is complete, the new 2025 OFC will be adopted and is currently anticipated to take effect in late summer 2025.
Most recently the Comment Period was completed and the SFM is pleased to provide the Report on Comments as well as a revised draft of those rules that were amended during the Comment period:

The next phase of the 2025 OFC rule update process will involve the submission of the draft 2025 OFC to the Common Sense Initiative (CSI) office. Please see below for important information on the CSI process.

The SFM has created a ‘significant changes’ document that outlines some of the more significant changes that are being made in the 2025 OFC. The document indicates the section number where the significant change occurs, the source of the change (i.e., the 2018 IFC, the 2021 IFC, the SFM, a Petition (PET) or a Comment (COM)) and a brief description of the change. The chart below reflects significant changes proposed to be made to the OFC as of the filing of the proposed 2025 OFC with the CSI office.
