UPDATE on ARC FLASH Injured Faith Technologies worker in fair condition (a worker, 20, who was burned in an industrial fire and was transported to a Burn Center is listed in fair condition – he is expected to be released on Sunday, April 3 – the worker was cutting a power line when he sustained burns on his body from an electrical flash – he experienced first- and second-degree burns)
AMMONIA Ammonia leak clears Salem ice cream plant (a chemical spill forced employees out of an ice cream plant – just before 1 a.m. fire crews responded to a report of a leaky ammonia valve at the factory – crews evacuated the building and brought in a hazardous materials team – the team set up a staging area and fixed the leaky valve – employees were back at work within hours)
AQUA AMMONIA Hazmat scare investigated in Philadelphia (two people were rushed to the hospital after an Ammonia leak – someone noticed ammonia leaking from a 30 gallon drum – the leak formed a vapor cloud inside part of the building, injuring two workers – those workers were transported to a Hospital, where they are reported in stable condition)
FATAL EXPLOSION Two found dead at Japan nuke plant (two missing workers in the destroyed Fukushima nuclear power plant have been found dead at the site – the victims had been reported missing since an explosion March 11 at the plant)
EXPLOSION Blast, fire at Armstrong Pellets plant (an apparent explosion at the pellets plant kept firefighters busy – the initial report came in as an explosion and by the looks of the outside of the building you could tell there were spots with holes in it – it blew off metal grates for windows that were going into the basement and shot them 50 feet away from the building – the warehouse-like structure contained a mechanical room and pellet hoppers – part of the roof of the older steel-frame structure collapsed – the plant was operational at the time – no workers were in the building where the explosion occurred – no one is believed to have been injured)
FATAL EXPLOSION Mexico alcohol distillery blast kills 3, injures 3 (four people died and three others were injured due to an explosion at an alcohol factory – the factory distills raw alcohol – about 600 people have been evacuated from homes in the general vicinity of the plant – it is not clear what triggered the blast)

VOSHA investigating downtown Burlington light pole accident (OSHA has launched an investigation into a construction accident involving a worker who was hospitalized after being struck on the head by a falling light pole – worker was listed in fair condition – he was struck by a concrete pole as it fell to the ground just before noon as he was climbing out of a newly dug trench – the pole was in the process of being taken down as part of a project to upgrade the block)
Four Injured in North Carolina Roof Collapse (four people were hurt when a roof under construction collapsed at 10:35 a.m. – a crane at the site was being used at the time of the collapse, but did not cause the accident – three people were trapped in debris after the collapse – a fourth worker who was standing nearby was also injured – the four people were taken to a Hospital to be treated for their injuries, which did not appear to be life-threatening – building safety inspectors are investigating the cause of the collapse)
WORKZONE I-70 accident injures a MoDOT worker (a Department of Transportation worker is hospitalized after being struck on Interstate 70 – a MoDOT crew was doing pothole repair when a gasoline tanker truck struck a MoDOT vehicle – the worker was struck as part of the collision and was seriously hurt – the cab of the tanker caught fire but was extinguished)
TRENCH Worker stuck in Cranbourne trench (workers scrambled to dig out a workmate after a dirt trench collapsed on him at a building site – the 45 year old was trapped for five minutes before his co-workers dug him out – the volume of earth caused significant chest, back and abdominal injuries – the worker was taken to a hospital and was listed in a serious but stable condition)
WORKZONE Worker Flagging Traffic, Hit by Car (crew was working at KY 7 near Junction KY 173 — they had closed traffic down to one lane – no other details)
CRANE 70-foot crane topples into river (the operator of a 70-foot crane that tipped over while working at Pier 33 Marina was being treated in the emergency room – he was in good condition – the crane, however, was not in good condition – it appears to be a total loss – about 50 feet of the crane went into the water and had to be pulled out – the cab was crushed between the crane and the sidewalk – the man{apos}s co-workers freed him from the crane by breaking out the windows and door and removing the steering wheel) |
