When you see it…
Flammable liquid railcar, in fact, it’s a carcinogenic flammable liquid, a Benzene railcar on fire.
I know it’s hot as heck in MS this time of year, but dang:
- placement of the truck and FF’s in what is clearly the hot zone
- placement of the FF using a hand line in the line of fire
- placement of the FF UNDER the RCar that’s teetering on the tacks and
- lack of PPE (full TO gear and SCBA) for a benzene fire
- Not to mention the article makes it seem that the newspaper report took that pic! We can only hope they had a 1,000X’s zoom lens on the camera!
Just a lot of opportunities!
The better option:
Set up an unmanned(!!!) monitor nozzle, lay a couple hundred, if not 1,000s, of feet of large diameter hose, and get those FF’s and truck away from this!
There is absolutely no reason or need to be that close. Maybe if there were an elementary school just out of picture, would I put my people at this level of risk?
