NOTE: I have no idea how a PIT can strike a PSV on a pressure vessel, but this is what was reported to have happened.
A forklift at the facility struck a pressure relief valve on a 60,000-pound NH3 tank that contained 14,000 pounds of ammonia, the Sacramento Fire Department said. One person was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fire crews reported irritation and burning in their eyes upon arrival on scene.
The incident was reported around 5:50 a.m. near Fruitridge Road between Power Inn Road and Florin Perkins Road.
Sacramento police responded to assist with traffic control while hazmat teams worked to contain the leak.
One person took themselves to the hospital for respiratory issues, which Sylvia said can be a typical reaction to ammonia exposure.
Hazmat crews remain at the facility monitoring and securing the scene.
This organization appears to have a history, as the DOJ announced a company-wide investigation into EHS matters at facilities across the country.

- June 21, 2024: Nitric acid and nitrogen dioxide release.
- Additional hazardous-waste allegations.
- Sparks, Nevada
- May 10, 2022: Alleged failure to implement safe work practices addressing operational hazards.
- Williamson, New York
- Alleged hazardous-waste storage/disposal issues in 2024.
