This document is a gem to have if you’re in a role that requires the use of multi-gas detectors such as those used for entry into permit-required confined spaces and check an area before Hot Work begins. It has been around since 2016 and I have used the information in it for years in my HAZMAT and PRCS training courses. It is a MUST READ for all safety professionals who use these devices, regardless of the type of device used; it covers them all!
NOTE: Anyone using a hand-held gas detector, or as OSHA refers to them: “Calibrated-Direct Reading Instrument” should be required to read this document and understand it before they are permitted to use one of these devices. TOO MANY entry supervisors do not know the limitations of their meters and this document will go a long way in explaining how their meter functions and their limitations.
