This video has been viewed over 1 million times, and I hope those views are by those people who write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). I have never counted how many SOPs I get involved in each year, but I know it’s 100+ across all my clients. My involvement, with my comments and questions, draws a lot of eye-rolls and sighs from the teams. But I was taught to view the SOP through the lens of a brand-new operator reading it and forming a mental image. As my MASH video humorously demonstrated, CONTENT and ORDER matter a lot in an SOP.
This cute video of a Dad with his two kids is a MUST show in any SOP training class. It’s funny and cute, and it makes the point that DETAILS MATTER! Now apply this level of detail to an SOP for tasks such as Catching a Sample from a Process, Cleaning a Stainer, and Filter Change Outs. Remember, EVERYTHING we do within the battery limits of our chemical process MUST be done via a written SOP.
FYI, after around Revision 6, my adult clients begin to behave like Evan. LOL
