Syncrude fined after falling ice crushed employee (facility has
been ordered to pay almost $400,000 after pleading guilty in the
death of a worker killed when he was crushed by a falling half-tonne

had formed on a pipe structure at the processing facility –
co-workers found him on the platform, apparently crushed against
metal railings and pipes by a mass of ice weighing at least 1,200

Toner dust cited as cause of minor fire at Konica Minolta
(hazardous materials officials gave the all-clear after examining a
structure fire where copy toner dust had caught fire – 40 employees

tied a tourniquet around the wound of the injured man, who was
described as being alert but in shock when rescue crews arrived)

condition (a construction worker, 45, is in serious condition
after sustaining fractures to one arm and one lower leg when he was
run over by a forklift – incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m.)

Man killed by 10 m fall through skylight (a man in his 30s died
shortly before 10:00 a.m. when the skylight of a hangar he was
helping demolish gave way under his weight – he and two other men
had just been lifted by crane to the roof, and the worker stepped
onto the skylight – he fell 10 metres to his death – an ambulance
arrived promptly but he was declared dead at the scene of the
accident – his co-workers were treated in hospital for severe shock)

Horrific accident closes part of Boulevard (a landscape worker,
24, was transported with life threatening injuries shortly after
10:30 a.m. when a pickup struck and dragged him 85 feet – the
injured man was a worker for a contract l andscaping company hired
to do landscape maintenance in the median – worker was working in
the center divider when the driver of a pickup truck headed
eastbound lost control of his vehicle and struck the worker pinning
him under the truck – pickup then hit a two-ton boulder in the
center divider, was diverted back onto the roadway and continued to
travel for an additional 85 feet with the worker underneath the
carriage – the pickup had to lift the vehicle off him – he sustained
numerous broken bones, including both femurs, along with head
trauma)

suffered serious injuries after a scaffolding along with many
construction tools collapsed at a building site – the workers were
working in the basement of a 36-storey building when the accident
