We can learn a lot from farming

I do not know who the original genius is that came up with these seven (7) statements, but as a safety professional, I can certainly relate.  I have always said creating a culture of safety is a lot like raising children.  I can now see it is also a lot like raising crops.

  1. Do not shout at the crops.
  2. Do not blame the crop for not growing fast enough.
  3. Do not uproot crops before they’ve had a chance to grow.
  4. Always choose the best plants for the soil.
  5. Irrigates and fertilizes them regularly.
  6. Remove Weeds.
  7. Remember you will have good and bad seasons – you can’t control the weather; only be prepared for it.
